Overview

Breaking: Your Ex-Wife is a Billionaire Heiress was the last live-action vertical series I produced at DramaBox. I worked on it from the beginning, following the project from development through final delivery. When I first read the script, I saw a story built around a female lead rising out of difficult circumstances, which made casting her our first priority. The script also contained familiar vertical drama elements—pregnancy, humiliation, and revenge—so our focus was on giving those moments the performances and coverage they needed to work. The director and I sought actors we trusted to deliver heightened emotions and planned specific shots, including slow motion and pickups, to support the dramatic beats. One sequence needed particular attention: the car crash. We wanted it to feel convincing, and achieving that became one of the production’s main challenges.

Challenges & Approach

The car crash scene was one of the sequences we paid particular attention to. It needed to feel convincing because both the action and the performance carried an important dramatic moment. With a tight production schedule, I worked with the director, cinematographer, and first assistant director to reassess our priorities and give the scene the attention it needed. We reduced coverage on lower-priority scenes to create more room for this sequence, while keeping the overall schedule intact. This gave us better opportunities for lighting, coverage, and performance. For me, the challenge was deciding where additional time would make the greatest difference on screen, then working with the team to make that time available.

The Result

I’m pleased with how the series turned out, including the car crash scene. Looking at the finished work, I think we made the right decision to give the female lead’s painful experience enough weight on screen. It helped make her eventual comeback feel more earned and powerful. As my last live-action vertical series at DramaBox, Breaking also reinforced how much of producing comes down to communication—with the key crew, stakeholders, actors, and ultimately our audience. My responsibility was to keep everyone on the same page while identifying what mattered most, deciding what needed attention, and making sure those priorities carried through to the finished series.
